How do you find the right balance bike for your child?

In our shop we offer wheels with different wheel sizes (8 ”, 10”, 12.5 ”) - only - 🤔 - which is the right wheel? < / p>

We give an approximate age on our website, but more important than the age are the development of the child, the height of the saddle and the length of the stride! Because that cannot always be determined by age.

The prerequisite for riding a balance bike should always be that your child can run independently and safely.

Your child should also completely touch the ground with their feet, unlike on a “normal” bicycle. So it can repel itself better and of course it can also stop better.

It is recommended that the step height is 2 cm longer than the saddle height of the balance bike.

But: W How do you actually measure the stride length exactly?

It's very simple:

  1. The child stands with his back to the wall, legs together and stretched
  2. A book is clamped horizontally between the thighs and pushed up
  3. Now the distance from the top of the book to the floor is measured.

That sounds strange at first, but works great!

Here you can find an overview of the respective saddle heights:

Saddle height

Handlebar angle limit

Run 8 wheel

28 - 36cm

2 - 4

Run 10 bike

30 - 38cm

2 - 4

Speedy 10 wheel

33 - 43cm

2 - 4

Speedy 12.5 wheel

35 - 44cm

3 - 5

Impeller Spirit Air 12.5

37 - 46cm

3 - 5

Another important point is the handlebar angle limit :

Particularly young, inexperienced children tend to make “angular” and jerky steering movements, which can lead to a fall or tipping over with a balance bike.

In this sense, the steering angle limiter buffers the not yet practiced control ability of small children and enables dampened cornering.

For very young children and balance bike beginners, a limit is usually recommended in order to prevent falls due to the handlebars being turned too far and to enable first practice rides ;-)

For children with balance bike experience and for perfect preparation for proper cycling, our 12.5 ”models no longer have a steering angle limit. This makes the transition to real cycling even easier!

And don't give up if it doesn't work right away!

You will notice that your child first walks on the balance bike without sitting on the saddle. You will quickly notice that you can also move around while sitting on the saddle.

And since the safety of your child is important to us: Never let them ride without a helmet! 😉
